An avid gun enthusiast, shooter, handloader and hunter since back in the early 60s, Bill Wilson, Founder of Wilson Combat, can’t remember when he wasn’t interested in guns. As a youngster, he roamed the family farm in rural Arkansas and hunted small game. When he got out on his own, he began competition pistol shooting and continued this pursuit for 35 years, winning several national events along the way. He represented the USA in international pistol competitions on several occasions. His competition shooting eventually led to a business opportunity and Wilson Combat was born. But at the root of his soul, hunting has always been his passion and big game hunting was always his dream, especially hunting in Africa. Finally in 1979 after a successful world championship match (finished 5th) held in South Africa, he got his chance.
Former World Champion David Westerhout from Rhodesia arranged a 5 day hunt for Bill. He was in heaven and successfully took Kudu, Impala, Wildebeest, Warthog and Bushpig. He doesn’t know what it was, but hunting the Warthog and Bushpig excited him more than anything else. It seems hog hunting has always been in his blood. Now semi-retired (Bill’s son Ryan has taken over the day to day operations at the company), and a Texas resident, Bill pretty much lives to hunt hogs and is fortunate to have access to over 15,000 acres of prime hog habitat. To date, he has personally harvested over 1000 feral hogs and has guided clients to hundreds more. There are very few techniques and tactics that he hasn’t tried on hogs, and it has proven to be a good test ground for Wilson Combat AR products.
